**Advanced Algebra I**

## Class Description

Integrated Algebra I Advanced is an advanced, high school level math course. It is designed for students who easily learn math and are ready for abstract concepts in mathematics.

## Essential Objectives

- Students will communicate number sense using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
- Students will communicate geometric and measurement concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
- Students will communicate algebraic concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
- Students will communicate data analysis and probability concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.

## Homework

Homework is designed for practice and is graded in class. Any problem that a student struggles with will be gone over during class time. As such, students are expected to take the time to correct

**ALL**problems that they miss on their assignments. All assignments should have a heading with the first and last name, the date assigned, the page number and the problems given.**All work must be shown to receive credit for assignments.**Homework will be checked daily to ensure that it is completed. All homework assignments are worth 3 points: 1 point for completion, 1 point for showing work, and 1 point for being done on time. Individual homework assignments are NOT calculated into a student’s final grade.## Formative Assessments

**Homework Quizzes:**Approximately once a week, students will have a quiz over the homework assignments, or similar questions from that week. This quiz is designed to show me the quality of student homework and if students are mastering weekly goals. Homework Quizzes typically take one class period to complete. These quizzes can and should be corrected after grading. Full credit is given for problems missed and corrected.

**Homework Quizzes are worth 30% of the final grade.**

## Summative Assessments

Each unit has a summative assessment at the end. Typically summative assessments are one period in length. Occasionally, however, summative assessments are spread out over 2 days. District level summative assessments cannot be sent home with students. These assessments are returned and discussed in class. Parents are welcome to view these assessments by making an appointment. These assessments are designed to show mastery of material in a unit. Students who have not achieved a proficient level will be

**required**to show evidence of relearning before being re-assessed.**Summative assessments are worth 70% of the final math grade.**## Math Notebooks

Students are expected to keep a notebook of their math work in a manner that will be explained in class. Notes, weekly quizzes, and reviews are to be kept in a three-ring binder in the following manner:

· All notes in unit order (dates should be in top right corner of paper).

· Weekly Quizzes in chronological order

· Formative Test Reviews

· Summative Test Reviews

End of the quarter notebook tests are considered formative assessments.
